Reginae Carter says that her Disney dreams were dashed because of Young Money Entertainment president Mack Maine.
According to The Grio, on a recent episode of her podcast, Heir Time, the 27-year-old sat down with Fat Joe’s daughter Azzy Milan to discuss the trials and tribulations of being hip-hop royalty’s offspring. Lil Wayne, Carter’s father, founded Young Money Entertainment in 2005.
During the conversation, Carter shared that she lost a potential opportunity with Disney due to a lyric in which Maine rapped about a then-teenage Miley Cyrus — a line many found inappropriate.
Here’s what he said and how Carter said it impacted her career.
Carter said Maine’s lyric about Cyrus barred her from teaming up with Disney
According to Complex, Carter got candid about being Lil Wayne and Toya Johnson’s daughter, sharing that her parentage affects how she’s perceived. The podcast host then revealed that a potential opportunity with Disney was halted due to a lyric Maine rapped on Young Money’s 2009 song “Every Girl.”
“Because of who my dad is, they’re going to put that on me,” Carter said on the show, which she launched in August. “Even with the Disney Channel, my uncle had a song that said, ‘In about three years, holler at me Miley Cyrus.'”
Carter laughed off the incident and added, “Disney don’t play.”
Maine received backlash for his comments about Cyrus in 2024
At the time Maine rapped the lyric, which seemingly suggested he was interested in pursuing her romantically after she reached the legal age of 18, the Hannah Montana alum was 16 years old. In the years following, the Young Money Entertainment president continued to share remarks on social media about his interest in Cyrus, calling her “baby” and celebrating her then-upcoming 18th birthday.
“Happy bdayyyyyyyy 2 my babygirl Miley Cyrus… 17yrs old…1 more yr…luv,” Maine wrote at the time.
Maine’s comments about Cyrus resurfaced in 2024, amid the Drake-Kendrick Lamar feud. Maine publicly supported the former after he released “The Heart Part 6” in response to Lamar accusing him of being a pedophile, The Grio reported. People on social media quickly pointed to Maine’s Cyrus lyric and other comments he made about her on social media.
